It features a design structure that packs in 47 million transistors into a single chip sized at just 22mm (0.87 inches), and it uses just 2.5 watts of power--less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor--for excellent battery management. This 1.66 GHz Atom N280 processor also includes a power-optimized front side bus of 533 MHz for faster data transfer on demanding mobile applications and a 512 KB L2 cache (which temporarily stores data).

1 out of 5 stars A big dud   February 15, 2010

My husband bought this netbook for me as I was having major back surgery and we thought it would be an easy way for me to keep my family and friends updated on my progress....wrong. We enrolled with a server, Clear, so that we could use the netbook away from home, as my surgery was not going to be in the same town we live in. After several attempts in getting the email up and running, the server representative felt there was something wrong with the Microsoft software on the netbook. We did have internet connection on the netbook. Then we contacted the Acer support service, and I spoke to several rather arrogant young Eastern Asian men who talked down to me nearly everytime I called them. We tried several things to get the Microsoft Outlook Express software to work, including uninstalling it and then re installing it. This did not work, and by this time we could not even get the netbook to come on. We were so frustrated. We were given the number of another service department "who have the smartest guys and they should be able to help you". There will be a charge for this though! I asked why there would be a charge when it was a new product and had never worked, and he went on to explain that Microsoft installs their software and if it doesn't work properly then Acer is not responsible for that! I paid $59.95 to talk to another young man for 30 minutes, and he kept insisting I should have my home server on the netbook and he used all but 4 minutes of my time on this. I was not very long post op by this time, and I was in pain and just didn't have the energy to mess with it anymore. If anyone knows how to get some action out of these people, let me know!!!I know Amazon doesn't deal with the service on computers but to me this reflects badly on them. The whole thing sounds like a scam, I buy the netbook and Oh dear the software doesn't work properly and Acer is not responsible for that, so now I have to pay to try and get it fixed!!!! Crazy.

Very brief turbo review after one month of use: This is a very capable little netbook. Do read the amazon product description thoroughly as this is a Windows XP netbook. If you simply must have Windows 7 look elsewhere. Here are a few of our impressions.

1. Very bright and crisp screen. Change the color quality to 32bit through XP display properties and this 1024x600 screen is gorgeous.

2. Battery life (6 cell) is phenomenal. Depending on what you are doing and if you watch your power management, 9 hours is a very accurate rating. Just remember that wi-fi use and any processor intensive tasks like streaming video will reduce battery life - with this type of usage we have been getting about six hours.

3. Keyboard is fine. Just remember it's a netbook. My only gripe is the 'tab' key is small.

4. Speakers are horrible. Usable, but tinny, flat and on the bottom of the unit. However the included HD audio software makes headphones or external speakers sound quite nice. We have used this netbook with iTunes and connected to our home theater for a very nice little jukebox.

5. Streaming video performance is impressive for a netbook. Windowed browser use is flawless but, Full-screen flash video can struggle to keep up with a lot of movement or action. Still very watchable though.

6. Other features just work as you would expect. Basic webcam. Basic touchpad (with limited multi-touch). Decent hard drive space.

All in all this is a great little netbook. Solid build quality and everything meets or exceeds all of our expectations.

Bought this little laptop few weeks ago I like it very much.
It is so light, Love it.
I bring my laptop with me all the time so to have a light one was a must. I like the fact that also the power cord is light.
No issue with the smaller keyboard - I had a 14inches before and I didn't notice a huge difference. Only thing I miss is the "go to end of line" button.
It boots pretty fast which is nice.
The internet seems to be a bit slow to load but I haven't been able to figure out if it is a connection problem where I am or the pc.
I have to say that when you are using it you don't feel like the screen is small (they have this nice function of the scroll padd that allows you to zoom in and out of the page very very easily) but if you have a 14 inch nearby all of a sudden you feel like that screen is enormous :)
All in all I think it was a good buy for the price.
the battery really lasts a long time - I got up to 7 hours with Open office, pdf, internet and skype working.

Acer AOD250-1517 10.1-Inch Ruby Red Netbook - Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life Within one day of receiving this computer the mouse/pointer would not show or activate. I called Acer Tech support and they said they would only help me if got an external mouse and call them back. I did not own one so had to get one and then call them back. After several attempts it finally reappeared. I also told them the several download pop-ups were appearing but would not download properly. Every time I tried to use Adobe it would bring up a page and freeze the use of the computer. Acer said they would not assist me with this problem without charging me additional fees. They also said it was a Microsoft Windows7 issue and they were not trained to assist me and gave me an Microsoft 800#. I called Microsoft and they said that only Acer could help me and that they would charge me $59.95 to address EACH issue I had. Now I am requesting a full refund as this has cost me 2 1/2 days of lost work and extreme hassle and it is not worth it! When I processed the refund Amazon says it might only refund me 85% of what I paid for the computer! I can not find a number to speak to anyone at Amazon about this whole mess! I am very dissatisfied!!! Can anyone help me????
