very nice September 7, 2010 khalie I bought this product as a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it, he brings it everywhere and it does everything he needs to do. very pleased.
Great Netbook, But Has Some Issues July 12, 2010 Vena (The Valley, Oregon) First off, the color of this netbook is awesome. I get tons of compliments on how pretty it is (I have a purple one). It's very zippy, and the fact that it has Windows 7 is great. I've had mine for about 9 months now.
The keyboard is small and could be hard to use if you have large fingers. The touchpad also has this weird glossy finish that makes it hard to use if your fingers are super clean. The screen is super BRIGHT! If you like this, it's a great feature, but after a while it hurts my sensitive eyes.
I upgraded the RAM in mine from 1 GB to 2 GB recently and it makes a world of difference.
If you buy a netbook, I would highly recommend the following software. Because netbooks have so few resources, you can really slow a system down if you run too many programs.
-Productivity: OpenOffice (100% free to download). This is an suite of programs that lets you make spreadsheets, text documents, presentations, etc. It's super lite compared to Microsoft Office and it's free. How can it get better? Some netbook companies even preload their computers with it.
-Antivirus: Panda Cloud 1.1. Great antivirus, very lite and doesn't hog resources like AVG or AVAST. I love it's simple interface and set it and forget it features. Totally free.
-Messenger: Digsby. Digsby isn't as pretty as yahoo messenger or MSN Messenger, but that just means that it runs faster. It logs you into multiple different sites including Facebook, Yahoo, Aim, and ICQ. Totally free.
-Change your desktop background: Oceanis. This is a program that allows you to change the default Windows 7 Starter background (this feature DOES NOT COME WITH WINDOWS 7 STARTER!). The program is free, doesn't use lots of resources and installs in about a minute.
The ACER netbook is adequate May 2, 2010 James R. Connor (Silicon Valley, CA) Purchased the Acer Netbook, it works fine, a bit sluggish on the web access but acceptable.
The main value is its size and functionality for web apps, support for office, general easy of use.
If there was an option to include more (factory installed) memory for a performance upgrade, I would purchase it. This machine, while adequate, is not close to a regular laptop. The question is: Would the memory upgrade give it a performance pop, or are there other technology throttles in the system, such as the disk drive? Secondly, a number of people have commented on removing the bloatware installed on the machine, it would be great to have a specific list of what can be removed, some utilities appear to provide critical functionality.
The other concern is the keyboard, on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7 for comfort and positioning with other keyboards.
Overall, the Acer is a good value.
Real Nice April 19, 2010 J. L. Rhoads (Colorado Springs,Co) Ive heard so many things about,Lap tops and Netbooks and well I really dont know much, so I did some research on the products and becaues of the reviews on this Acer I decided to take a chance, Wonderful I love it, my battery lasts a good 3 hours, keys are easy to touch and find, some reviews said they have a few problems like having to push hard on the keys, Im having no problems at all, screen is bright and colorfulmy only problem is the key board does not lite up, I bought a lite up keyboard for my home PC and I love it, bought that from Amazon too, Now if this Acer Keyboard lits up then Ill have to redo my review but as of this time I dont see how it would lite up..This is my first Netbook and I truly love it, if I could use 2 at a time Id buy another one, as is Im running my Home PC and this one at the same time, I write at night..
